Born 1987 in Heidelberg, lives and works in Berlin.

Maximilian Arnold graduated from the Städelschule (Prof. Willem de Rooij until 2015). Arnold’s work evolves from a personal archive of newspaper clippings, digital images, and his own photographs. Through printing, cutting, and rearranging, the original meanings of the images are shifted. The focus is on the transformation from collage to painting, in which multi-layered visual structures emerge from fragments, layers of paint, and revisions. Arnold explores how meaning changes as images migrate across different media.

His recent solo and two-person shows include “A Deep Scrub”, DUVE Berlin, Germany (2017), “Zona Maco” (with Iris Touliatou), Mexico City, Mexico (2017), “Aware of Being Naïve” (with Martin Kähler), Basis Showroom, Frankfurt am Main, Germany (2016). His recent group shows include a group show in Galerie Tobias Naehring, Leipzig, Germany (2017), “Painting Or Not”, Kaviar Factory, Henningsvær, Norway (2017), “Pressing Your Face In Wet Grass”, Private Offspace, Frankfurt, Germany (2017), “Tutti Meno Un Etto”, Im Hinterzimmer Showroom, Karlsruhe, Germany (2017).
