Born 1986 in Berlin. Lives and works in Berlin.
Franziska Beilfuss' painterly work is devoted to principles and processes of transformation.
The artist, who claimed the title Meisterschülerin (MA) at the UdK (University of Arts) Berlin, focuses on the In-Between-Space allowing the reunion of contrasts. Since 2018, numerous large-format oil paintings have been created under the working title KOKON.
With this, Franziska Beilfuß addresses the gap as a hidden place of transformation and creates a metaphorical connection to the process of painting. With her new series ILLICO, Beilfuß creates painterly power structures from self-inducing color fields. She calls these often wave-like structures ´torus´, referring to the mathematical form of the rotation torus. The relationship between inside and outside must always be requestioned in these pictures. These paintings are puzzling interplays of appearance and disappearance. The gestural layering of color creates overlays and glazes. The reappearance of the hidden through transparency calls for a constant comparison of the spatial relationships through color.
In the series HALBSCHATTEN Beilfuß addresses the mirror imaging as confirmation of singularity, the fraction between in the painterly field. All of these works were titled after terms from the Zhuangzi.
The works shown in the exhibition DOPPELGÄNGER deal with the construction of identity and link the hidden transformation of the cocon to the concept of HALBSCHATTEN.
